Things You Need to Know Before Going Solar
Choosing the correct RV trailer solar rack is an important decision. The most important piece of information to gather is the total usable length of your RV or trailer roof.Â
First, begin measuring from behind the front trim or front air block (called a fairing). Measure all the way to the rear of the roof. If there is another trim or cap piece on the rear part of the roof, only measure the usable roof space. This is to ensure the RV solar rack baseplates fit on the part of your roof without any complications.
Second, measure the width of the roof. Most RVs have a minimum roof width of 92 inches. Our RV solar racks are generally 90 inches wide with the most common-sized solar panels on them.
As long as you have a minimum of 90 inches, then you're golden! If you have less, we have solutions for you that we can custom-fit to your needs. Just reach out to us here on our Contact Us page with your roof measurements, and we'll be happy to help.
How Much Solar Do You Need?
Generally, the more the merrier!
We've never had anyone say they wish they had LESS solar.Â
It's best to max out the roof with solar in order to produce as much power as possible, as reliably as possible. But if your energy needs are extra small, then you don't have to max out the roof with solar panels.Â
As long as there is more room, you can also add more solar racks and panels later. Or, consider replacing your boring awning with a solar awning to increase power production when you're parked.
